I grew up in Egypt, studied at Cairo University, and have spent over two decades building language AI at the world's leading research labs. At Microsoft Research (2010–2025), I contributed to six milestones in Microsoft's AI journey — including XYZ-Code, the Turing and Z-Code foundational models, Phi small language models, and AI-powered coding for GitHub. I now work at Meta Superintelligence on the large-scale models defining the next era of AI.

This site exists because the global AI conversation systematically underestimates the stakes and opportunity of the Arab world. Egypt has 100 million people, a young workforce, and a critical window to shape how AI lands here. I'm here to write about that — from the inside.

Meta Superintelligence
Post-training for large-scale LLMs

Working inside Meta's frontier AI research division — the lab building the models that will define the next era of artificial intelligence.

2025 – Present
Microsoft Research
Partner Research Manager — AI at Scale

Contributed to six milestones over 15 years: XYZ-Code (multisensory & multilingual learning), Turing & Z-Code foundational models, Machine Translation at Scale (107 languages, one model), Nuance Ambient Clinical Intelligence (600+ healthcare systems), Phi small language models, Copilot+ PCs, and AI-powered coding for GitHub.

2010 – 2025
IBM Watson Research Center
Research Scientist — NLP & Information Extraction

Early career work on information extraction, Arabic NLP, and machine translation. Recipient of the IBM Watson Bravo Award (2006) and IBM Invention Achievement Awards.

~2001 – 2010
Dublin City University
PhD — Natural Language Processing

Doctoral research in NLP, funded by a Science Foundation of Ireland scholarship. Foundational work in machine translation and Arabic language processing.

PhD
Cairo University, Egypt
Bachelor's Degree — Computer Science

Where it started. Cairo University gave me the foundation in mathematics and computer science, and Egypt gave me the perspective I carry into every conversation about AI and the developing world.
